What is the Sports Premium?
The government is providing funding of £320 million per annum to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Head Teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Our school will receive £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year for the next two years. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of the funding
At The Oaks Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. In addition, it is considered that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children. The governors agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability. It's important that we use this money wisely. We will continue to place a high priority on our PE provision and resources to further enhance the curriculum.
Our Sports Funding allocation will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing more sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and by training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.
Planned uses of the funding
Kings Heath Sports Partnership Membership: This will allow us to access training days for staff to go on to help ensure high quality PE is delivered in all sessions. The membership will also allow us to enter more competitions, which will give more opportunities for children to compete in competitive situations. Children will also be able to go on Play leader training through the membership which will allow us to have children on the playground who are trained to deliver activities to others.
After School Sports Clubs: Increasing participation levels by offering pupils access to a variety of clubs.
Access and entry to competitions: Some of the funds will be allocated toward accessing these competitions, which can include transport, entry fees and staff cover.
We have currently looked at the swimming provision in school and children in each year group from Year 3 participate in a set of swimming lessons to help make sure all children on leaving the school can swim 25m or further.
