From the 1st to the 7th February is Children's Mental Health Week.
The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. It is about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself. As parents and carers, you play an important role in your child’s mental health.
Place2Be have created a range of creative projects to help adults and children to nurture their relationship whilst having fun making art together. Each project offers space to explore an engaging theme through stories, art and conversation.
The aim of these projects is to encourage children to create something they want to make. We hope their creativity can be celebrated and social and emotional wellbeing strengthened through this process.

This activity links with our Science lesson on Monday and could be completed alongside this unit of work.
Hi Year 1,
Here is a quick reminder of our new Phase 5 sounds that we practised last week:
/ay/ /ou/ /oy/ /ea/
tray cloud boy read
How many more words can you read and write with these sounds?
Get a piece of paper and ask a grown-up to help you to fold it into 4 quarters.
Next, cut them out.
On each quarter, write the new sound on one side and draw a picture clue of a word that contains the sound on the back.
These are your flashcards and you can use them to help you to practise your phonics.
Dear Year 1,
Thank you so much for all your support so far with our home learning. It has been a a huge learning curve for us all but hearing your children sharing answers during our live Maths lessons on Friday has absolutely been my highlight of the week!
Please find below our Year 1 Remote Learner Timetable. This timetable mirrors the learning taking place in school. We now have two live lessons a day: 9.10am Live Maths and 1.00pm Live Phonics. All children are expected to join us for these lessons. We have also included pre-recorded lessons for Whole Class Reading and Curriculum. You will be able to find these lessons in Teams: Year 1 Children: Files. We will be uploading them each day for you.
In addition, we have our IXL and new NUMBOTS learning platforms online. They are great fun for the children and are a brilliant way to progress through the Year 1 skills in Maths and English. Little and often is best, so encourage your child to have a go for 5-10 minutes each day.
Finally, we can also now access Phonics Play for free. In the timetable you will see the username and password that you need. Please encourage your child to practise Phase 3 and 4 phonemes. If you want to start to dip into Phase 5 then start with the /ay/ digraph which we will begin learning on Monday.
That's all for now but as ever stay safe and take care! If you have any queries regarding remote learning, then please email: Parentsiny1@theoaks.bham.sch.uk
